Physics Graduate Students received Travel Awards for the 2008-2009 academic period from TcSUH!

October 9, 2009

Five physics graduate students received Travel Awards from the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston (TcSUH) to present their research in national conferences for the 2008-2009 academic period.

*Mr. Rajit P. Chaudhury* (Paul Chu, PI) gave an oral presentation, “Reentrant spiral magnetic order and ferroelectricity in Mn1-xFexWO4,” at the 53rd Annual Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Conference (2008) held in Austin, TX. Mr. Chaudhury also won 1st prize at the TCSUH Student Symposium in December 2007.

** *Ms. Priya V. Chinta* (Wei-Kan Chu, PI) presented her results on “Weak localization effects in Al-doped ZnO films.” *Mr. Omar Lonzano* (Wei-Kan Chu, PI) also presented his results on “Transport properties of transparent conducting thin film Nb:In2O3.” Mr. Lozano won 3rd prize in the December 2006 TcSUH Student Symposium. Both students made oral presentations of their research results at the 2009 March Meeting of the American Physical Society (APS) in Pittsburgh, PA.* *

*Mr. Nilanjan Das* (Paul Chu, PI) was selected to give an oral presentation of his research, “Electric Field Induced Resistive Switch in Transition Metal Oxides,” at the IEEE 2009 10th Annual Non Volatile Memory Technology Symposium, to be held in October 2009 in Portland, OR. Mr. Das won 2nd prize in the May 2008 TcSUH Student Symposium.

*Ms. Melissa Gooch* (Paul Chu, PI) will present her research, “Magnetic Quantum Critical Point and Scaling in the Iron Pnictide Superconductor KxSr1-xFe2As2,” at the 11th Joint MMM-Intermag Conference, to be held January 18-22, 2010 in Washington, D.C.. Ms. Gooch won 1st prize in the May 2009 TcSUH Student Symposium.
