Learning Center
The Learning Center offers three different ways for UH students to get help with physics concepts and homework problems from physics tutors for PHYS 1301, 1302, 1321, 1322, and 1306: To access online tutoring resources: Tablet PCs allow tutors to write their explanations on the screen of a PC in the same manner as they do on paper or on a whiteboard. Tutors will record these written explanations along with explanatory audio, and these videos will be uploaded onto VNet. Students can access these videos at any time – even when the Learning Center is closed! They will then also have the added benefit of being able to replay the video and review the concepts as many times as they want. Please see detailed instructions on how to access the Tutorial Video Library in VNet. VMeeting uses Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro, which powers the next generation of web conferencing software. You don’t need to download anything. VMeeting enables individuals to instantly communicate and collaborate through easy-to-use interactive online meeting rooms with features that include whiteboards, application sharing, real-time video, and chat messaging. Just visit Physics Learning Center Room 1 or Physics Learning Center Room 2 for live online tutoring, and experience the latest in distance education technology. Please see detailed instructions on how to use VMeeting to get tutoring help. Tutors are NOT there to do homework for students or to merely give answers to problems. Rather, they are there to help students understand the material, enabling them to answer homework and exam questions by themselves. Students should come to the Learning Center prepared by attending classes and reading over the assigned material. Astronomy students can consult any tutor for basic physics-related question. Times in parentheses indicate tutors who are particularly available to help astronomy students. These tutoring services are funded in part by your course fee payments.
Tutorial Video Library Using VNet
To extend the effectiveness of tutoring sessions, tutors at the Physics Learning Center will use tablet PCs to record their explanations to requested homework problems. Live Online Tutoring Using VMeeting
If a video explanation of a homework problem isn’t already on VNet or if students want additional help with understanding the physics concepts involved, they can chat with tutors using VMeeting from wherever they have an internet connection. These tutorial sessions are recorded and added to the tutorial video library to help other physics students. Please see the Physics Learning Center hours of operation for the availability of live online tutoring.In-Person Tutoring at the Learning Center
The Learning Center is located in room 416 of SR1. UH physics tutors will be present in the Physics Learning Center to assist students requesting online and in-person help. Appointments are not necessary. Please see the Physics Learning Center schedule below for hours of operation.Spring 2009 Physics Learning Center Schedule and Online Tutoring Hours
